Reaction Steps

To a stirred solution of 3-(4-(4-chlorophenoxy)phenyl)-2,6-dimethylpyridin-4(1H)-one (0.8 g) in acetic acid (10 ml) was added N-chlorosuccinimide (0.39 g). The mixture was heated at 100° for 30 min, cooled to room temperature and the precipitate filtered and dried in vacuo to afford the title compound (0.33 g), m.p. 340°-343°, NMR δH (d6 -DMSO) 11.3 (1H, br.s), 7.42 (2H, m), 7.2 (2H, m), 6.95-7.12 (4H, m), 2.4 (3H, s), 2.1 (3H, s).
