4-Formyl-N-(2-pyridinyl)benzenesulfonamide (5.7 g, 0.022 mol), 5-acetyl-2 -hydroxybenzoic acid (6.64 g, 0.044 mol) in 5M sodium hydroxide (20 ml) were stirred for 3 days at room temperature. The solution was diluted with water (100 ml) and acetic acid added dropwise in excess. The precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with water. After drying, the material was recrystallized from acetic acid and dried at 120° C. in vacuo. Yield 6.4 g, 66%.
