To a suspension of 0.278 g of 2-butyl-6-ethynyl-4(1H)quinazolinone in 8 ml of pyridine is added 0.080 g of 5% palladium-on-barium sulfate. The reaction is stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere for 48 hours, filtered, concentrated in vacuo and the residue purified by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with ethyl acetate-hexanes to give 0.179 g of the desired product.
