Procedure
By the method of Example 5, Step E, 133 g (0.339 mole) of 5-bromomethyl-4-cyano-1-(2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-1H-pyrazole and 666 mL of pyridine were reacted, yielding 98 g of 1-[[4-cyano-1-(2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-1H-pyrazol-5-yl]methyl]pyridinium bromide. The nmr spectrum was consistent with the proposed structure.
