Procedure
Thionyl chloride (0.73 ml) in chloroform (5 ml, alumina dried) was added dropwise to a stirred and cooled solution of 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-4-morpholino-5-fluoro pyridine (0.75 g) in chloroform (15 ml). After 2 hours at room temperature the solution was reduced in volume and ether added. The precipitate was filtered off, washed and dried to give 2-chloromethyl-3-methyl-4-morpholino-5-fluoropyridine hydrochloride (0.6 g) m.p.148°-156°.
