Procedure

A solution of methyl 2-methoxymethyl-1-[[2'-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4-yl]methyl]benzimidazole-7-carboxylate (0.2 g) in methanol (10 ml) and 1N-NaOH (1.5 ml) was heated at 80° C. for 20 hours. The solution was concentrated to dryness to give a residue. The residue was dissolved in H2O and made acidic to give a crystalline product. Recrystallization from DMF-MeOH-H2O gave colorless prisms (0.16 g, 80%).
