Procedure

A mixture of 2-sulfamoyl-4-mercapto-5-chloroaniline, prepared as described in Example 13, Step A-3 (0.02 mole) and acetyl chloride (0.022 mole) in 75 ml. of dioxane is heated under reflux for 24 hours. The solution is concentrated to dryness in vacuo and the residue dissolved in 75 ml. of ethanol and treated with 75 ml. of concentrated ammonium hydroxide in the cold. Thereafter the solution is heated under reflux for 3 hours and concentrated to dryness in vacuo. The residue is suspended in 100 ml. of water acidified with hydrochloric acid and the product, following recrystallization from dimethylformamide-water, melts at 304°-305° C.
