Procedure

Following a procedure similar to that described in Example 8 hereinabove, 1,2-dihydro-9-hydroxy-7-methyl-4-oxo-4H-thieno[2,3-c] [1]benzopyran is reacted with methyl magnesium bromide to give 1,2-dihydro-9-hydroxy-4,4,7-trimethyl-4H-thieno-[2,3-c] [1]benzopyran. The benzopyran is then reacted with β-piperidinopropionic acid and dicyclohexylcarbodiimide to yield the desired ester.
