Procedure
20.4 g (0.1 mole) of 5-(o-aminophenyl)-4-nitropyrazole are heated with 100 ml of acetic anhydride for 2 hours under reflux. The solution obtained is poured into water, the precipitate that solidifies is filtered off, washed with water, dried, then boiled in a ten times' quantity of xylene for 5 hours. Thus, 11.4 g (50%) of 1-nitro-5-methylpyrazolo[1,5-c]quinazoline are obtained. M.p.: 178°-179° C.
