2,5-Dimethyl-3-acetylthio-pyrazine was prepared by acetylating 2,5-dimethyl-3-mercapto-pyrazine [compound (2) a.] with acetic anhydride in an alkaline medium according to the method described in Houben- Weyl, 4th ed., vol. 9, 753 (1955). The product has a m.p. of 36°-42° C.
