A mixture of 5-[[(2-aminoethyl)thio]methyl]-N-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)-2-furanmethanamine (0.83 g) and 1,1-bis-(methylthio)-2-nitroethene (0.25 g) was heated at 98°-100° for 3 hr. The gummy residue was chromatographed (silica/ethyl acetate then ethyl acetate/ethanol 9:1) and the appropriate eluate evaporated to dryness to give the title compound (0.2 g) as an oil.
