Reaction Steps

In dichloromethane (40 ml) was dissolved 7β-mandel-amido-3-hydroxymethyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid triethylamine salt (4.65 g), followed by addition of succinic anhydride (1.50 g). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour and a half. After the reaction had been completed, the mixture was treated as in Example 8 to obtain 7β-mandelamido-3-(3-carboxypropionyloxy)methyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid (4.45 g).
