To a cooled solution of 8.8 (0.500 g, 2.00 mmol) in dry DCM (32.0 mL) at 0° C. was added boron tribromide (7.00 mL, 7.00 mmol). Stirring was continued for 6 hours, and the reaction was monitored by TLC and LCMS. Upon completion, pH 7 buffer was added to the mixture at 0° C. The resulting solution was extracted with DCM (3×20 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was then purified by flash chromatography (SiO2 gel 60, eluted with 0%-20% EtOAc in hexanes). Fractions containing the desired product were combined and concentrated to provide 35.1 as a colorless oil (0.29 g, 61%). MS ESI (pos.) m/e: 335.1 (M+Na)+, 320.1 (M+H2O)+, 303.1 (M+H)+.
