A 100 mL round bottom flask was charged with 66.56C (mixture of diastereomers) (0.59 g, 1.7 mmol) and 1:1 THF/MeOH (15 mL). To the solution was added sodium borohydride (0.063 g, 1.7 mmol) in one portion at room temperature. The mixture was stirred for 1 hour, quenched with 1 N HCl, and extracted with ether. The combined organic layers were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to afford 66.56D (mixture of diastereomers) as a colorless oil. The product thus obtained was used without further purification.
