Reaction Steps
A mixture of 5-nitro-3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (100 mg), 3-methoxybenzyl bromide (73 μl), potassium carbonate (144 mg) and tetrabutylammonium iodide (10 mg) in DMF (5 ml) was stirred at 60° C. for 90 min. The mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by chromatography on silicagel in heptane/ethyl acetate 2/1 (v/v) as eluent.
