2-(3-Bromo-5-(chloromethyl)phenoxy)-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine (4.7 g, 12.82 mmol) was dissolved in triethylphosphite (18.7 mL, 107.7 mmol) and refluxed at 160° C. for 4 h. It was then purified by silica gel column chromatography (30-40% ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound (3.8 g, 63%). 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3): δ 8.42 (s, 1H), 7.91 (d, J=10.75 Hz, 1H), 7.33 (s, 1H), 7.24 (s, 1H), 7.07 (s, 1H), 7.02 (d, J=8.6 Hz, 1H), 4.04 (q, J=7.5 Hz, 4H), 3.14 (s, 1H), 3.10 (s, 1H), 1.25 (t, J=7 Hz, 6H); m/z (468.1, 470.1, M+ H+).
