0.6 mmol of 2-hydroxy-2,2-dithien-2-ylacetic acid 1-azabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-3(R)yl ester are suspended in 4 ml of CH3CN and 6 ml of CHCl3. 0.48 ml of 3-phenoxypropyl bromide were added to the resulting suspension and the mixture was stirred for 72 h at room temperature in an inert atmosphere. The solvents were subsequently evaporated to yield (90%) of 3(R)-(2-hydroxy-2,2-dithien-2-ylacetoxy)-1-(3-phenoxypropyl)-1-azoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bromide. The product is isolated by filtration at room temperature and the level of 3-phenoxypropyl bromide is determined to be 117 ppm.
