Reaction Steps
To 1.13 g of 6-(morpholin-4-carbonyl)pyridin-2-ylmethyl acetate, 233 mg of potassium hydroxide and 1.5 mL of ethanol were added, and the mixture was heated to reflux for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, water was added to the residue, and extracted with chloroform. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then the solvent was removed off in vacuo. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel (chloroform-methanol-triethylamine=500:25:1) to give 530 mg of (6-hydroxymethyl-pyridin-2-yl)morpholin-4-ylmethanone as a white powder.
