A mixture of 3-[4-(4-bromo-2-methyl-benzyloxy)-benzoylamino]-propionic acid methyl ester (0.20 g, 0.49 mmol), phenyl boronic acid (0.09 g, 0.78 mmol), and Na2CO3 (0.11 g, 1.08 mmol) in toluene/water (3 mL: 1 mL) is degassed (2×). Pd(PPh3)4 (0.05 g, 0.04 mmol) is added, and the mixture is stirred at 100° C. for 12 h. The mixture is filtered through Celite. Water is added, and the mixture is extracted with EtOAc. The organics are dried with MgSO4 and concentrated. The crude material is purified by flash chromatography to yield 0.20 g (100%) of the title compound.
