3-Benzyloxy-5-trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy-benzoic acid methyl ester (15.4 g) was dissolved in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (250 mL), followed by addition of Pd(PPh3)4 (2.5 g), solution of sodium carbonate (12 g) in water (120 mL) and 3,4-methylenedioxyphenylboronic acid (8.4 g). The resulting reaction mixture was refluxed under the flow of nitrogen for 5 h. After cooling the organic layer was separated and washed with water and then dried over magnesium sulfate. The crude material was purified on a silica gel column using ethyl acetate and hexanes to yield 14.2 g (99% yield) of the title compound.
