Procedure
Following the general procedure for the preparation of azides of Description 16, 3-pyridylmethyl (2R)-4-[(3-chloropropyl)sulfonyloxy]-2-hydroxy-3,3-dimethylbutanoate (37b) (20 mg, 0.053 mmol) dissolved in 1 mL of anhydrous dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was reacted with 10 mg (0.1 mmol) of sodium azide (NaN3). After work-up, the crude title compound (37c) was used in the next step without further purification.
