To a solution of 2-[1-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-methylethyl]-1-[3′-(methylsulfonyl)biphenyl-4-yl]-4-pyrrolidin-2-yl-1H-imidazole, acetonitrile and pyridine was added acetic anhydride. The solution was heated to reflux for 1 h. After a routine aqueous work up, the crude product was purified by prep HPLC to give 4-(1-acetylpyrrolidin-2-yl)-2-[1-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-methylethyl]-1-[3′-(methylsulfonyl)biphenyl-4-yl]-1H-imidazole: 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 1.6 (m, 3H,), 1.8 (m, 1H), 1.9 (br, 2H), 2.1 (m, 4H), 2.3 (m, 2H), 3.1 (s, 3H), 3.5 (m, 1H) 3.7 (m, 1H), 4.5 (m, 1H), 5.0 (m, 1H), 6.8 (m, 2H), 7.1 (m, 5H), 7.6 (m, 2H), 7.7 (m, 1H), 7.8 (m, 1H), 7.9 (m, 1H), 8.2 (m, 1H); LC/MS M+H 562 (observed).
