A mixture of 4′-[(4-butyl-2-methyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-5-yl)methyl]biphenyl-2-carbonitrile (1 g), cyanomethylene tri-n-butylphosphorane (1 g), 2-methyl-2-phenylpropan-1-ol (0.63 g) and toluene (30 mL) was stirred at 100° C. for 16 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound as a colorless solid (0.13 g, 10%).
