4′-[(5-Bromo-4-ethyl-6-oxo-2-propylpyrimidin-1(6H)-yl)methyl]biphenyl-2-carbonitrile (0.50 g), 4-isopropoxyphenylboronic acid (0.31 g) and [1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene]dichloropalladium (0.050 g) were dissolved in 2 M aqueous cesium carbonate solution (2 mL) and 1,4-dioxane (10 mL), and the mixture was stirred at 90° C. overnight under an argon atmosphere. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate, and the insoluble material was filtered off through celite. The filtrate was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound (0.50 g, 89%) as a colorless solid.
