To a solution of benzyl 4-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (7.3 g, 25 mmol) in ethanol (100 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (500 mg) and the reaction vessel was purged with hydrogen and stirred over an atmosphere of hydrogen for 3 hours. The reaction was filtered and concentrated to give 21-1 as a solid. MS (M+Hf): 153.2; 1H-NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 7.99 (s, 1H), 2.98-2.94 (m, 2H), 2.82-2.74 (m, 1H), 2.57-2.50 (m, 2H), 1.82-1.78 (m, 2H), 1.60-1.50 (m, 2H).
