Procedure
A mixture of ethyl 7-hydroxypyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate (0.50g., 2.4mM) and 10% sodium hydroxide solution (5ml) was heated on a steam bath for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled and acidified with acetic acid to give the required product as white crystals in 76.3% weight yield (0.33%), m.p. 319°-320° C (decomposition), νmax (nujol) 1740 (acid C=O) and 1675 (lactam C=O)cm-1.
