55 g(0.2 mole) of benzoin-2-chloroethyl ether are stirred with 174 g of morpholine for 6 hours at room temperature and for 1 hour at 130° C. After cooling, the reaction mixture is diluted with ether and poured into water. The aqueous layer is extracted with ether and the ether layer is washed neutral with H2O. The ether layer is then extracted with dilute hydrochloric acid. The hydrochloric acid solution is made alkaline with K2CO3 and extracted with ether. The ether layer is dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated. The residual oil is dried in vacuo.
