Reaction Steps

3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-D-glucal (9.70 g; 35.6 mmol) was reacted at 0° C. with triethylsilane (4.96 g; 42.7 mmol) and borontrifluoride-etherate (3.04 g; 21.4 mmol) in dichloromethane (110 ml) under an atmosphere of argon for 5 minutes. The solution was poured into aqueous NaHCO3 solution and extracted several times with dichloromethane. The organic layer was dried (MgSO4), evaporated and the crude product purified by distillation.
