Procedure
To a solution of 3-ethoxy-4-bromoisothiazole-5-carboxylic acid (2.02 g, 0.0080 mol) in methanol (8 ml) there was added a solution of potassium hydroxide (0.45 g, 0.0080 mol) in methanol (8 ml). The resulting solution was stirred at ambient temperature for 10 minutes and concentrated to dryness in vacuo. The residue was dried (60°, 0.1 mm) to give 4-bromo-3-ethoxyisothiazole-5-carboxylic acid potassium salt (2.24 g, 97%, mp 265°-268° (d)).
