Procedure

To 6-fluoro-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-5-methyl-2-[(5-methyl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)methyl]-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indol-1-one methanesulphonate (33.0 g) was added water (112 ml) and the mixture heated to 45° C. to give a clear yellow solution. This solution was allowed to reach ambient temperature, then cooled to 10° C., whereupon the mixture was filtered and the solid washed with water (20 ml, at 10° C.). The solid was dried at 48° C. in vacuo for 16 hours to give the title compound (20.3 g).
