Procedure

10 g (91.6 mmol) of 2,3-diaminopyridine and 27.4 g of valeric acid are stirred at 170° C. for 18 h. After completion of the reaction, the mixture is diluted with 100 ml of CH2Cl2, washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution, water and saturated NaCl solution, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated. Chromatography on SiO2 using EA/Hep 20:1 yields 9.7 g of the title compound.
