Procedure

The compound prepared in (5) above (2.5 gm) was dissolved into a mixed-solvent of 50 ml of acetic acid and 50 ml of acetic anhydride. The mixture was catalytically hydrogenated for 1 hour in a hydrogen stream with the addition if 800 mg of 10% palladium-on-carbon. After removing the catalyst by filtration, the reaction mixture was concentrated. The residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography using chloroform as an eluant to obtain fractions containing the target compound. The fractions were concentrated to produce 2.22 gm of the title compound.
