Reaction Steps
To a solution of aldehyde from Step 1 (1.03 g, 6.5 mmol) in THF (20 mL) at -70° C. was added 1.4M methyl magnesium bromide in THF-toluene 1:3 (4.66 mL, 6.52 mmol). The mixture was stirred at -70° C. for 45 minutes, quenched with aqueous saturated NH4Cl and allowed to warm up to room temperature. It was diluted with ether, and the organic phase was washed twice with brine, dried over MgSO4 and evaporated down. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel, eluting with a 1:2 mixtue of ethyl acetate and hexane, to afford the desired compound (293 mg) as a colorless oil.
