Reaction Steps

To a solution of ester from Step 4 (75 mg) in THF (1.5 mL) and methanol (1.5 mL) there was added 1N aq. NaOH (1 mL) and the mixture was refluxed for 1 h. The mixture was concentrated until solids appeared, diluted with water and acidified with 1N aq. HCl (2 mL). The mixture was extracted twice with ether, the extracts washed twice with water, dried and evaporated to a solid residue which was triturated with hexane and filtered, affording the title compound as a cream colored solid (61 mg). [α]D =-4.4° (c=1, acetone)
