Procedure

A mixture of 9.5 g (0.033 mol) of 11-(chloroacetyl)-5,11-dihydro-6H-pyrido[2,3-b][1,4]benzodiazepin-6-one, 9.8 g (0.04 mol) of 2-[2-[(benzoyl)methylamino]ethyl]-piperidine, 4.2 g (0.04 mol) of sodium carbonate and 300 ml of acetonitrile is refluxed for 10 hours. Then the reaction mixture is filtered and the filtrate is evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The crude product obtained is purified by chromatography on silica gel (Baker, 30-60 μm) with a mixture of methylene chloride/methanol/cyclohexane/ammonia/ethyl acetate=68:15:15:2:500 as eluant.
