Suspend 4-[4-(3-chloro-4-fluoro-phenyl)-1-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-1H-imidazol-2-yl]-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (5.07 g; 11.96 mmol) and TEA (35.88 mmol; 5.0 mL) in DCM (50 mL) and cool in ice bath. Add methanesulfonyl chloride (14.35 mmol; 1.1 mL) dropwise over 9 min and stir for 30 additional min. Quench with saturated sodium bicarbonate, dry over MgSO4, filter and evaporate to provide the title compound (6.246 g; 104%) as a foam. MS (ES): m/z=502 (M+H).
