Procedure

Ethyl 2-{4-[(1,1-dioxotetrahydro-1λ6-thiophen-1-yl)hydroxymethyl]phenyl} propionate (400 mg) obtained in Example 38 was dissolved in 1,4-dioxane (5.0 ml), and then to the solution was added thionyl chloride (0.2 ml), and the mixture was stirred at 70° C. overnight. The reaction mixture was quenched with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, and then dried over sodium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (420 mg, 99%).
