10-methanesulfonyl-4-nitro-10-aza-tricyclo[6.3.1.0*2,7*]dodeca-2,4,6-triene (170 mg, 0.60 mmol) in 8 ml EtOH and 2 ml methylene chloride in a Parr bottle was treated with 50 mg 10% Pd/C and subjected to hydrogen (g) at 40 psi for 2 h. The suspension was filtered and the solvent removed under reduced pressure to yield 10-methanesulfonyl-10-aza-tricyclo[6.3.1.0*2,7*]dodeca-2,4,6-trien-4-ylamine (157 mg, 99%). 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.03, (d, J=7.8 Hz, 1H), 6.64 (s, 1H), 6.52 (dd, J=7.8, 2.3 Hz, 1H), 3.77-3.68 (m, 1H), 3.67-3.54 (m, 3H), 3.36 (dd, J=12.6, 6.8 Hz, 2H), 3.13-3.05 (m, 2H), 2.38-2.28 (m, 1H), 2.03 (s, 3H), 1.78 (d, J=10.9 Hz, 1H), 1.24 (t, J=7.0 Hz, 3H); LC/MS (ESI+): 253 (M+H).
