Reaction Steps

(4-Nitro-2-pyrrol-1-yl-phenoxy)-acetic acid ethyl ester (15 g, 0.052 mol), THF (100 mL, 1 mol), and Sodium hydroxide (10 mL, 0.5 mol) were stirred at rt for 6 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated, diluted with H2O, and washed with EtOAc. The aqueous layer was neutralized and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 10.92 g (80%) of a yellow oil which solidified upon standing.
