To a solution of [2-(3,5-dimethyl-phenyl)-1-(2,3-dimethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-isothiocyanate (81.9 g) in chloroform (1 l) was added ethanolamine (25.4 g) dropwise at room temperature. The mixture was stirred for 3 hours and the solvent evaporated, the remainder dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed 6 times with water. The solution was dried over sodium sulphate. Removal of the solvent in vacuo yielded the 1-[2-(3,5-Dimethylphenyl)-1-(2,3-dimethyl-phenyl)-ethyl]-3-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-thiourea (94.8 g) as an off-white powder.
