Reaction Steps

(R)-tert-butyl 2-methyl-4-(4-phenylphthalazin-1-yl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (495 mg, 1.22 mmol) was dissolved in dichloromethane (15 mL). Trifluoroacetic acid (2.36 mL) was added and the reaction stirred at rt for 1.5 hours. The reaction was added to saturated NaHCO3 (30 mL) and neutralized by the portion wise addition of solid NaHCO3. The layers were separated and extracted twice with dichloromethane. The combined organics were dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give a pale yellow foam. MS (M+H)+=305.4.
