2-(2-Hydroxy-phenylsulfanyl)-benzoic acid (2 g, 8 mmol) was dissolved in acetic anhydride and the resultant solution was refluxed at 145-148° C. for 8 h. Upon completion, the excess acetic anhydride was removed by rotary evaporation and the residue was poured into ice water. The mixture was extracted with diethyl ether. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered, evaporated by a rotatory evaporator and purified by column chromatography to obtain the product (1 g, 54%). m.p. 124° C.
