Indene → Fluorene
Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Indene | HCID 7219 | — |
| Reactant | 2,3,4,9-Tetrahydro-1H-fluorene | HCID 588465 | — |
| Product | Fluorene | HCID 6853 | — |
| Product | Indane | HCID 10326 | — |
Reaction Steps
A portion of the 2:1 fraction (by molar ratio) of indene and tetrahydrofluorene obtained in Example 1 was charged in an autoclave, and was then reacted and processed in a similar manner as in Example 1 except that Pd/Al2O3 (5% Pd supported on alumina) was added as a catalyst in a proportion of 1%. As a result of an analysis by gas chromatography, fluorene and indane were found to have been formed with a yield of 96% (based on tetrahydrofluorene) and with a yield of 95% (based on indene), respectively.
