Reaction Steps
To a stirred solution of 4-methoxybenzaldehyde (1.0 g, 7,3 mmol) and 3,4,5-trimethoxyacetophenone (1.54 g, 7.3 mmol) in methanol (30 ml) was added a 50% w/v solution of aqueous NaOH (1 ml). The mixture was stirred for 24 hours at room temperature, acidified with 2N HCl and extracted with chloroform (3×30 ml). The combined organic phase was dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered, and the solvent concentrated under vacou. The product was finally purified by column chromatography. Mass Spectrum m/e (M+1) 329.
