Reaction Steps

3α-Hydroxy-11β-iodoacetoxy-5α-pregnan-20-one (1.5 g) was stirred with N-butyl-N-ethylamine (3 ml) in dichloromethane (60 ml) at 20° for 21 hours. The solution was washed with water and the solvent was evaporated at reduced pressure. The residue was triturated with water giving a solid which was recrystallised from aqueous methanol to give title compound (1.2 g), m.p. 111°-112.5°, [α]D +93.5°.
