Procedure
9.4 gm (0.037 mol) of 2-(4-hydroxy-phenyl)-3-methyl-3,4-dihydro-pyrido[2,3-e]-pyrimidin-4-one were dissolved in 100 ml of dimethylsulfoxide, and the solution was mixed, while stirring with 4.5 gm (0.04 mol) of potassium tert. butylate. After a clear solution was formed, 9.4 ml of epibromohydrin were added, and the reaction mixture was stirred for one hour at room temperature. Thereafter, it was poured into 600 ml of ice water, and the resulting crystalline product was suction-filtered off and dried at 40° C. in a vacuum shelf-drier.
