Procedure

A mixture of 5.0 g. of 3-amino-1,5-diphenyl-2-pyrazoline (prepared as described in Example 4) and 25.0 ml. of a mixture of formic acid and acetic anhydride (Example 15) is allowed to remain at room temperature for 30 minutes. Then hexane is added and the mixture is filtered. The solid obtained is dissolved in dichloromethane. The solution is columnized and recrystallized as described in Example 14 (B) to yield 3.55 g. of the product of the Example as off-white needles, m.p. 158°-160° C.
