A mixture of 37.6 g N-methyl-3-(3-indolyl)-propylamine and 21, 2 g acrylonitrile in 65 ml anhydrous 1,2-dimethoxyethane are warmed with stirring at 60°0 for 21/2 hours. N-(2-cyanoethyl-N-methyl-3-(3-indolyl)propylamine (M.pt 48°-49° after crystallization from isopropyl ether) is obtained after working up.
