0.5 g (1.76 mmole) of 3-amino-2-cyano-3-(5-amino-3-phenyl-isoxazol-4-yl)-acrylic acid methyl ester [compound (3a)] is dissolved in 7 ml of 2 N NaOH and 10 ml of EtOH, and is heated to boiling for 3 hours. Then the undissolved residue is filtered off. Colorless plates are precipitated during cooling off, which are sucked off (removed) and washed with a small amount of MeOH.
