Procedure

0.728 g (2 mmole) of 2-(3-phenylsulfonyl-prop-1-yl)-cyclododecanone and 0.730 g (13 mmole) of KOH in solution in 10 ml of ethyl alcohol were heated to reflux for 1 hour. After addition of 2 ml of DMSO, the reaction mixture was heated to 120° and the excess of ethyl alcohol distilled therefrom. The resulting mixture was then heated at 110° for 12 hours, then treated as indicated hereinabove to afford 0.29 g (71% yield) of the desired compound.
